In that context our limited feature set is also a strength.įrom a performance point of view one could argue that the current EmberGen is actually incredibly inefficient relative to its true potential, because we've already hit this problem of diminishing returns, tech debt and accumulation of features. The more features you have the more likely it is that each new addition you make make everything else worse, both in terms of speed and in terms of quality and interoperability. The hardest task is putting it all together in a cohesive manner where things don't trample on each other. Given enough time we'll have any old solver or tool be realtime by merit of technological and hardware advancement regardless, but at that point the bar will have moved.Īnyone can write a fast smoke/pyro solver in a reasonable amount of time, especially if the scope or feature set is narrow, or if it runs on the GPU only. Our most important goal is ease of use and rapid iteration, and being sufficiently fast supports this goal. On the one hand being fast might seem on its face to be our primary strength and goal, and being (single) GPU only certainly helps there, but that's really half missing the point.
